VOLUNTEER AUDIO EDITOR - Swindon Talking News
We are looking for one or more volunteers to act as Audio Editors. Full training of the software used will be given; general computer skills are useful. You will be fully supported until you feel comfortable.
Whatever the job, we like all our volunteers to put their hands to a range of tasks, as part of a small team. You will be given appropriate training and an induction when you commence.
The Audio Editor’s responsibilities will include:
– Working with the Co-ordinator and Producer to understand the running order of the recording.
– Record and link together various “ sound bites” to compile a fortnightly episode.
– Create a Master copy of the recording onto a USB. This is duplicated and sent out to listeners by the team.
– Upload the recording online for our listeners’ streaming devices.
– Be available on a Wednesday evening once a month (or as agreed on the rota) once the training period has ended.
WHo WE ARE
The fortnightly Swindon & District Talking Newspaper (STAN) gives print disabled listeners an independent means of keeping in touch with what’s going on in the local community.
The recording is produced fortnightly and is circulated to listeners on a memory stick or via the TNF/BWBF app. It contains local news items from the Swindon Advertiser, and features of general interest including sport, local history and interviews; plus, articles, interviews and information produced specifically for print disabled people from the BBC, RNIB and TNF Soundings.
The Talking Newspaper is available free to any print disabled person interested in receiving it.
PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
This opportunity is suitable for someone 18 or over who is interested in Audio Editing and supporting print disabled people. It also requires the person to be part of a small volunteering team. The Recording studio is situated on a first floor and unfortunately no lift is available so it may not be suitable if the volunteer is unable to use stairs.
