Trustee Vacancy- Treasurer for Voluntary Action Swindon

VAS has a fantastic Trustee opportunity for a Treasurer to join our team.  This is a voluntary role.

Founded in 1932, Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) is the Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) in Swindon. A CVS is a charity which supports other charities, not for profits organisations and community groups to establish and thrive.  We provide funding and governance support as well as supporting marginalised groups and individuals to ensure their voice is heard to make necessary change to improve local services.   

The Board of Trustees must always act in the best interests of VAS.  The Board of Trustees must act as a group and not as individuals – working together to ensure effective governance and a clear strategic direction.

Brief overview of your duties as a VAS Trustee Board Member

As a Trustee you will ensure that VAS complies with its governing documents, pursues its objects as a charity, will contribute actively to the Board of Trustees, using your experience to give strategic direction, set policy and define goals and other statutory duties as detailed in the role description.

Time Commitment

Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings.  Board meetings as held approximately 6 times a year, from 4.30 pm – 6.30 pm.  Additional subcommittee meetings will also need attending depending on your Trustee role, plus one whole day long meeting each year is allocated for strategic planning.

Specific overview of Treasurer Role requirements

To provide independent financial scrutiny, including:

  • Authorised signatory for VAS bank account.
  • Authorise monthly pay roll and associated costs.
  • Authorise payments where Chair or Vice Chair is not able.
  • Independent oversight of all on-line payments authorised by the CEO.
  • Chair the Finance & HR sub-committee (5 meetings per year).

Estimated time commitment is 4 hours per week.

We are ideally looking for someone with a financial background, or some knowledge and experience of working in financial management, with a commitment to the mission of VAS in supporting voluntary groups in Swindon.
