Production Coordinator Volunteer - Swindon Talking Newspaper

The fortnightly Swindon & District Talking Newspaper (STAN) gives blind, visually impaired and disabled listeners an independent means of keeping in touch with what’s going on in the local community.

The recording is produced fortnightly and is circulated to listeners on a memory stick or via the TNF/BWBF app. It contains local news items from the Swindon Advertiser, and features items of general interest including sport, local history and interviews; plus, articles, interviews and information produced specifically for visually impaired people from the BBC, RNIB and TNF Soundings.

The Talking Newspaper is available free to any visually impaired person interested in receiving it.

WHAT IS SWINDON & DISTRICT TALKING NEWSPAPER ASSOCIATION LOOKING FOR?

We are currently looking for one or more volunteers to act as a Production Coordinator. Basic computer skills are useful as the role does incorporate creating/amending schedules and volunteer contact details. You will be fully supported until you feel comfortable doing the role.

Whatever the job, we like all our volunteers to be able to put their hands to a range of tasks, as part of a small team.  You will be given any appropriate training and an induction when you commence.

The Production Coordinator’s responsibilities will include:

– Working with the Sound Engineer to understand the articles to be included in the Running Order.

– Create the Running Order for each recording (distribute to Sound Engineer / Presenter in timely manner).

– Create a volunteer rota to be communicated with the volunteers (based on their availability).

– Assign tasks to volunteers via rota (reading, editing, presenting, recording extra articles each fortnight).

– Arrange cover if a volunteer can’t make a recording.

– Be available on a Wednesday evening twice a month (or as agreed on the rota).

– Communicating to volunteers and committee to keep updated with rota/contact details/general info.

– Attend Committee & AGM meetings and be able to provide a report on activites.

– Amend Running Order and content based on listener feedback.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

This opportunity is suitable for someone 18 or over who is interested in a coordination role and supporting visually impaired and disabled people.  It also requires the person to be part of a small volunteering team.

The Recording studio is situated on a first floor and unfortunately no lift is available so it may not be suitable if the volunteer is unable to use stairs.
