Social Group Facilitator – Wiltshire Sight

Would you like to make a difference in your local community?

Wiltshire Sight is a local sight loss charity delivering services across Swindon and Wiltshire. Their mission is to put the needs and aspirations of blind and partially sighted people first and help create a world in which people living with sight loss can access the services they need within their own communities. Their small but dedicated team of community sight loss advisors offer a range of services including advice and guidance, technology and daily living equipment demonstrations, social and sporting opportunities and visual awareness training. 

Wiltshire Sight are looking for friendly, outgoing individuals to support their Community Sight Loss Advisor in facilitating their social group in Swindon. Their social groups are a place where people who are blind and partially sighted can enjoy each other’s company, share experiences and information, try out new activities and provide encouragement to each other.

What you will be doing?

– Ensuring the space is safe and ready before the group arrives

– Greeting members as they arrive and introducing new members to the group 

– Making tea and coffee for the members

– Facilitating conversation amongst the group and referring on to a Sight Loss Advisor where a member requires advice or support in relation to their sight loss

– Feeding back any issues, comments, suggestions or incidents that have occurred during the session

– Where possible, promoting the group within your local area

What skills and experience are needed?

– Good communication skills

– Friendly and approachable

– Punctual and reliable

– Able to work with a diverse range of people

– An understanding of issues affecting blind and partially sighted people is desirable but not essential as training will be given

– Induction

– Understanding Sight Loss Training Pack

– Agreed out-of-pocket Expenses

– Supervision and support from the Volunteer Coordinator

– Additional training as appropriate

Pilgrim Centre, Regent Circus, Swindon, SN1 1PX

When will you be needed?

Third Thursday of every month from 10am to 12.30pm

References

Two references required. These can be from anyone you have known, other than a family member, for over two years
