TSL Book Review Volunteer - School Library Association

We are looking for a volunteer who has an interest in children’s publishing and school libraries to support the work of the SLA. 

We review hundreds of books a year to ensure that children have access to the best stories and information books, through their school libraries. This volunteer role supports us to do this and helps us with the planning and production of our quarterly journal.

We are looking for someone who can work at least two hours a week, (more hours will always be available), and who can come to our offices in Pine Court, located in SN2.

We need somebody that can assist with books sent in for review by publishers by:

  • Checking and recording all bibliographical details needed for reviews(access to barcode reader and appropriate sites available)
  • Including locating a book jacket image and saving
  • Noting probable age categories for titles
  • Noting possible gaps in coverage
  • Preparing books to be sent to individual reviewers for posting
  • Recording which reviewers have submitted reviews for each edition of TSL.
  • Checking press releases against books received to the office and emailing publishers requesting books.
  • Assisting with finding books for certain age categories if needed.

The volunteer will be working closely with the Review Editor, and the SLA Team.
