Short Description
Building Preservation Trust and community organisation committed to championing local heritage and transforming how people feel about – and are involved in - their local area.
Description

The Trust was originally founded in 1995 to protect and bring back to community use the derelict Mechanics Institute building, a cause we continue to work on with Swindon Borough Council. Our current work includes the reopening and revitalisation of other important historic buildings in Swindon's Railway Village, including the Central Community Centre, the Baker's Community Cafe, the Railway Village Museum and the Cricketers' Arms. We are also a community organisation with a history of active community engagement and welcome opportunities for partnerships and community involvement in our work. Our work compliments and is part of Swindon's Heritage Action Zone, funded by Historic England, established to combine programmes of conservation of Swindon's important railway heritage with the economic regeneration of the area.
