VAS Celebrates Volunteers Week
Volunteers Week ran from 1st – 12th June this year, celebrating the contributions made by millions of volunteers across the UK. At Voluntary Action Swindon we know how important volunteers are – like most charities, our resources are limited and we simply would not be able to operate without the generosity and goodwill of our volunteers. From manning the VAS reception to helping out with events and doing maintenance work at Swindon Advice and Support Centre, volunteers are a core part of everything we do.
To say thanks to our volunteers, we treated them to a meal, then went back to VAS for some cake and to present them with Certificates of Appreciation – just a simple way to show our gratitude for all the great work they do!
More than 15 million people volunteer at least once a month in the UK, according to NCVO (the National Council for Voluntary Organisations). People who volunteer do so for a variety of reasons, including: seeing the difference it makes to people’s lives; making new friends; developing skills; and enhancing career prospects (Time Bank).
Volunteer Centre Swindon are based in our building at 1 John Street. The Volunteer Centre works with individuals, groups and organisations in the voluntary sector to promote, support and develop volunteering in the community.
