Heat Wave Plan for England 2016: Are you prepared for the heat wave challenges?

Some might like it hot, but extreme heat can overpower the human body. In fact the excess deaths and illness related to a heat wave occur in part due to our inability to adapt and cool ourselves sufficiently. That is why Swindon Borough Council, via its Public Health Directorate, is recommending that every organisation should make sure that its heat wave plan is in place, updated, reviewed and workable.

The objective of the Heat wave plan for England is to protect the population from heat-related harm to health. It recommends a series of steps, to be taken throughout the year and indeed during summer time by:

  1. The NHS , Local Authorities , Social care and other public agencies
  2. Professionals working with people at risk
  3. Individuals

If we are well prepared for the heat wave challenges, the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke will be low.
